CBSE South zone 1 Girls' Football

Tournament 2024-25

18 to 21 Sepetember-24

Welcome

Welcome to the CBSE Zone 1 Girls Football Tournament!

Hosted by MM School, Hosur, this prestigious event brings together the best young female
footballers from across the zone. Get ready to witness incredible skill, teamwork, and
sportsmanship as these talented athletes compete for the championship title.

POSITIVE, INCLUSIVE FOOTBALL CULTURE FOR OUR YOUNG FEMALE ATHLETES

The recent CBSE South Zone-1 Girls’ Football tournament hosted by Mathakondapalli Model School (CBSE), Hosur (www.football.ricemms.com) has been an eye-opening experience for me, revealing a significant disparity in skill levels among the participating teams. This observation has led me to reflect on the current state of football coaching in our schools.

It’s become apparent that our physical education teachers and coaches need more comprehensive training to focus on developing fundamental football skills rather than merely employing tactics to win games. The emphasis should be on long-term player development, not just short-term victories.

I observed that even well-educated parents seemed overly focused on their daughters winning matches, rather than appreciating the development of their skills. This short-sighted approach overlooks the long-term benefits that come from skill improvement and personal growth in sports.

Parents should understand that fostering their daughters’ overall development as players will have a more lasting and positive impact on their lives, both on and off the field. By shifting the focus from immediate victories to continuous skill enhancement, we can create a more nurturing environment that supports the holistic development of young female athletes.

I was particularly troubled by the behaviour of some coaches towards their players, especially after losses. The practice of singling out and berating individual girls for their mistakes is not only demoralizing but also counterproductive to their growth as athletes. Such aggressive reactions can severely impact the confidence and enthusiasm of young players, potentially discouraging them from continuing with the sport.

To nurture empowered and skilled female footballers, we must create a supportive environment where players are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of the game’s outcome. Coaches should be trained to provide constructive feedback, emphasize learning from mistakes, and maintain a positive atmosphere that encourages continuous improvement.

By addressing these issues, we can work towards bridging the skill gap closer and fostering a more positive, inclusive football culture for our young female athletes.
